Making connections

I am learning to make a connection between the book and my own experiences.

The Lonely Giant

In the middle of the night I was lonely and I cried. Then I went to my Mum and then it was ok.

It is easy to make a connection. I like thinking about the connections in the book.

Balancing on the beam

We are learning how to balance on a beam in Gymnastics. We have to carefully climb on the beam and stand up. We have to  put our aeroplanes arms out to help us balance. We then have to walk all the way to the other side. Sometimes we have to turn and go back too. It can be scary sometimes because the beam wobbles when we walk on it. We are all getting better at balancing on the beam!

Using other punctuation

I am learning when to use other punctuation
e.g. commaexclamation markquestion markapostrophe, speech marks

I have the whole set of Star Wars cards. My favourite cards are BB8, R2D2 and Chewbacca. I like Chewbacca because he's got a name like my dog. My dog's name is Chewy. I love him. He is cute!

I am proud of myself because I know how to use commas, apostrophes and exclamation marks. I know how to use the other ones but I need to remember to think about it when I am doing my writing!

Non fiction books

I am learning to describe the features of a non-fiction text.

The book ‘The Biggest Land Animal” is a non-fiction text. I know it is non-fiction because:

Photos
What type of pictures are in this book?

Photos
Index
What does the index tell us?

It tells you where to find things in the book.
Glossary
What does the glossary tell us?

It tells you what the words say.
Why do we read non-fiction books?
So we can know about animals and other stuff.
What have you learnt from reading this book?

This book is teaching us about elephants.

It was a tiny bit hard to talk about non fiction books because I couldn't think about much. I could have read the book again to help me a bit more.

Adding detail

I am learning to add some details to my writing.

Jill the Whale

Early in the morning Jill searched for some friends. She searched for days and days. Finally she saw tiny little seahorses.
She  said, “Can I be your friend?” They said, “Yes! You can.”
“My name is Jill. What are your names?” asked Jill. “Our names are Irene, Hannah and Jill.”

They lived happily ever after. The end.

I like adding detail to my stories. I know I am good at it because I can write long stories and Mrs Mason says they are funny!

St John Visit

Mac from St John came to talk to the children at Elm Park School about safety and first Aid. He brought his mini ambulance Amby along with him. Mac taught Room 11 about who to call when there is an emergency. We looked at different pictures and had to decide if we needed to call for the police, the firemen or an ambulance. We had actions that we had to do to show Mac that we knew who to call!

Shape Monster

I am learning to name and describe plane shapes.

We are learning about Geometry in Room 11. We are learning to name plane shapes and to say how many sides and corners the shape has. We created shape monsters and wrote a description about them.

I like that my shape monster is a circle. It was easy to think about if it had corners and sides. It doesn't have any! I like my shape monster because it was colourful.

Adding to make ten

I am learning to split numbers to make ten to help me add.

Sometimes it is easy to split the numbers to make a ten but sometimes it is hard. Sometimes I look at the numbers for a long time.

The Tale of the Turnip

The Ladybird reading group are learning how to read to an audience with fluency using phrasing and expression.

I like reading in front of Room 11. I am good at using a big voice so everyone can hear me.

Youthtown

Room 11 has been going to Youthtown this term. We have been learning how to throw a ball at a target. We learned that you need to have your one arm in an L shape ready to throw the ball. The other arm needs to be pointing at the target. Then we have to do a power throw and try to hit the target. Sometimes we hit the cones and sometimes the ball goes in a different direction.

Word Cloud

I am learning to use describing words in my writing.

I like describing the Roly-Poly Bird. I got to make my own word cloud and choose the colours. It was fun.

Reading Term One

I am learning to retell the story I have read.

I was really good at retelling the story. I wrote about the beginning, the middle and the end. I really like doing it.

Maths Term One

I am learning to solve simple addition problems up to 20.

Miss Radue gave me two numbers and I had to add them together. I had to draw a picture too. It was a bit hard.

Writing Term One

The seahorse was playing with the star fish. They played stuck in the mud.

I am learning to underline my try words.

I like writing words. I sound them out. I find it hard to write the big words.

Self-Portrait

I have been learning how to draw my self-portrait. First Mrs Scott came to show us how to sketch our face. We sketched our face shape first. Then we drew our guidelines to help us remember where our eyes, nose, mouth and ears went. We practised using a whispering pencil and a shouting pencil. Our first sketch looked a bit funny so we tried again. This time we used a photo of us to help us. We had to start all over again! Miss Radue then helped us rub out all the whispering pencil guidelines and photocopied our sketches so they were bigger. We had to go around our sketch with vivid and then we used pastel to colour in our self-portraits. It was hard work but we had a lot of fun!

Welcome

Welcome to my blog. On my blog you will see my learning. I hope you enjoy it. Please leave me a message.
