Writing a recount

We are learning to write a recount. Room 4 went on a field trip to the Botanical Gardens last week. We wrote about where we went, what we did, who we went with and when we went. After we wrote our stories, we published them. We used Kidpix to make a picture which matches our story. It is tricky remembering everything to put in our story sometimes. We are proud of our publishing.

On Tuesday I went to the Botanical Gardens with room 4. We went by bus. It was fun. Room 1 and 2 went too. All of us had fun. We went with Madeleine and my daddy and Tara too. By Isabel.

Making pizza

Yummy! We made pizzas to celebrate the end of our inquiry on wellbeing. We were learning about compost and how we can use it in our garden to grow some healthy vegetables. We then used these vegetables to add flavour to our pizzas. 

I Am Learning To Add Details To My Writing

I am learning to add details to my writing.  

I can write when something happened.

"I can write the day something happened and I can use the day cards to help me.  I like to write about my family."

I Am Learning To Tell The Time

We have made clocks at school. 

We are learning to tell o'clock and half past times using our clocks.

"I wake up at 7 o'clock."

Our Big Book Activity - The Snake Cake

We have been reading the big book 'The Snake Cake' and decided that we would make a snake cake  too.  We spread pink icing on the biscuits and stuck them together so they looked liked a snake.  

Then we put some blue icing on the top and M & M's too.  

Then we ate it.  It was delicious!

My Art Exhibition Masterpiece

This term we painted pictures for the 

Elm Park School Art Exhibition 2015.

The focus of our artwork was experimenting with different painting techniques, blending and shading colours together and creating repeating patterns.

To create our 'flower masterpiece' we practised mixing different shades of the same colour to create the wavy lines.  Then we used black vivid to create a repeating pattern.  We had fun putting our pictures together to create a whole flower - this was the best part!

Reading Term 3

I Am Learning About Root Words.

I can find a root word and I can make more words using different endings - s, ing, ed.

"I can find the words in my reading books and I can find them in my word lists too.  Sometimes it's tricky but my friends and my teacher can help me find the words too." Isabel

• add some detail to my writing

We wrote about about a Kapa Haka Performance that we watched in the auditorium during Māori Language Week.  First we wrote 2 sentences and then the next day we added some more writing to make our stories more interesting.

"I like to write about my friends and my family.  I sound out the words that are hard to write.  I can use the big alphabet cards to help me spell interesting words."

I am learning to add and subtract numbers to 10.

"I can play Slide Addition with a buddy.  

Tara was my buddy and it was a little bit tricky because you had to be fast."

100 Days Smarter!

On the 23rd July 2015 Room 5 celebrated 100 days of school.  

We had a small class celebration, made crowns and wrote about our favourite things to do at school.

We are now 100 days smarter!!!

I am learning to identify question marks, exclamation marks, full stops, commas and capital letters.

"This means somebody's shouting.  It's called an exclamation mark.  I found 2 in this book.  I am quick at finding them."
